Put children first - Vote for Child Rights

The innocence knocking at your car window at the traffic signal you encounter each morning , that young domestic help seen in the bazaar struggling with a huge bagful of veggies, that little boy selling tricolor flags at the roadside are all, simply Children. If only you had noticed them for whom they were…children. If only the government had recognized them for who they are and that they have rights of their own!

So why are they bereft of the rights that are ‘right’fully theirs? Because there is a lack of sincere political will in supporting the case of Child Rights in India. You would ask if Children actually have rights. Yes they do, in fact the government of India has ratified (technically if not in total spirit of implementation) by the United Nations Charter on Children’s Rights (UNCRC) that outlines the 10 rights that every child is entitled to. But truly speaking, can we safely say that every child in India enjoys ‘special protection, and is ‘given opportunities and facilities, by law and by other means, to enable him/her to develop physically, mentally, morally, spiritually and socially in a healthy and normal manner and in conditions of freedom and dignity’? India has the right intentions at heart, but are we truly keeping, “the best interests of the child” in mind when we draw laws of the land? As the Indian general elections draw closer as voters and candidates, we are charged with the responsibility to see to it that children’s interests do not slip off the political radar yet again This is why CRY is reaching out to you with a list of urgent issues and their solutions to make the country more child-rights-friendly.

Firstly who is a child? As per the Article 1 of the UNCRC, “a child means every human being below the age of 18 years unless, under the law applicable to the child, majority is attained earlier”. The article (unfortunately) also gives individual countries the freedom to determine at its discretion on fixing the age of when a child ceases to be a child. India too defines a child in varied ways, depending on which law you are viewing the ‘child’ from! For instance, as per the Child Labor Prohibition and Regulation Act, 1986, a child is a person who has not completed 14 years of age. The effect of this incorrect definition is that effectively children between 14 an d18 are legally allowed to work, making them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Moreover the law itself only prohibits employing children in some hazardous industries leading to the horrifying phenomenon of young children in our country doing “non hazardous work “like domestic work Such Definition dichotomies pertaining to ‘who is a child’ persist in the Indian scenario and those needs to be streamlined so all our laws define children as per the UN CRC we signed on to.

Even as India approaches the 16th Lok Sabha elections, we at CRY are looking at mobilizing and advocating the cause of Child Rights with all political parties to ensure that leaders (at national and regional level) look at Child Rights as an intrinsic aspect of governance. It has to be understood that any change gets intrinsically (and irrevocably I must say) linked with political resolve and only with the complete involvement of governments any long term change can be truly made possible. You may wonder why go to the government at all? Because government makes laws and the laws (in the case of the children) decides if children go to school or spend their childhood as bonded laborers. Our nationwide “Vote for Child Rights” election advocacy campaign is a concerted attempt at getting political leaders to include Child Rights in their party manifestos, indicating their clear commitment towards the cause. The campaign is based on in-depth research and analysis on Child Rights indicators and reflects the aspirations of children across different states of India. Our own Child Rights Manifesto that we wish and hope becomes an integral part of diverse party manifestos across the country. "The Child Rights Manifesto" focuses on key issues and areas that are impacting child rights in our country and offers recommendations to alter the grim child rights situation as it stands today.

The campaign unveils a day before Children’s Day, to ensure that the celebration of Children’s Day truly stands for something concrete and ensures long term change for the children of India. To make it a pan-Indian movement, we need your help, because like CRY’s founder Rippan Kapur believed in and what we at CRY also commit to “What I can do, I must do”, in essence that is exactly what you too can do, so stop waiting, take the “Vote for Child Rights” pledge and work with us towards making long term policy changes.

Indian techies develop tiny remote for smartphones

Indian technologists have developed a Bluetooth-enabled device that can serve as a Swiss army knife for smartphones.

Gecko, which is about the size of a quarter, can be programed to perform a host of functions, like lost-and-found, a personal photographer, a pet sitter and a home security system.

According to Mashable, Gecko is a tiny wireless remote that lets the user control his smartphone by shaking or turning it.

The device can also operate as a motion detector that sends alerts to your phone and its built-in ambient temperature sensor allows for climate tracking too, the report added.

Gecko will be compatible with smartphones having Bluetooth 4.0, including iPhone 4S and above, Android phones running Android 4.3, or Samsung devices running 4.2.

Navaratri fifth day incarnation is Lalitha Tripura Sundari Devi

As all of know how Parvathi Devi got married to Lord Shiva and the death of Manmadha due to fire from Lord Shiva third eye then Rati wife of Manmadha was frightened and prayed to Brahma for relief of the curse. Brahma regained His composure and said, “The Divine Mother will manifest as Lalita devi. She will marry Shiva. After the marriage, She will revive Manmatha to life”

Vasanta (the god of spring season) consoled Rati devi, saying, “Sister-in-law! It is a must for everyone, however great he is, to undergo the suffering of a curse. However as predicted by Brahma, my brother Manmatha will be revived to life soon. Until then, be bold and continue to pray to Lalita devi. Rati devi left the place and followed the advice.

Birth of Bhandasura. At this point of time, Chitrakarma, the commander of one of the Rudra Ganas (Gana = troupe) one day started toying with the ash of the burnt Manmatha and prepared a doll out of it. He took this doll to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva’s intentions are indeed unfathomable. As soon as the doll neared Lord Shiva, it sprang to life and the boy thus born prostrated before Lord Shiva and Chitrakarma. Chitrakarma was overwhelmed with joy. He gave the boy the Upadesha of Shata-Rudreeya Mantra and asked him to undertake penance. When the penance reached the stage of fruition, Lord Shiva appeared before him. He asked Lord Shiva to grant him a special boon “Anyone who fights against me should immediately lose half of his strength and that strength should be added to my strength. None of the weapons of my opponents should be able to bind me” was his request. Immediately Lord Shiva granted the boon and added, “I am also bestowing on you the boon of ruling the kingdom for sixty thousand years”. After giving these boons, Lord Shiva disappeared. He became surprised and a bit apprehensive by the words of Lord Shiva. But soon he forgot it.

Lord Brahma, who was witnessing all this, grew frustrated and swore “Bhand” “Bhand” (meaning shame, shame). From then on, he got the name “Bhanda”. Because of his qualities he became an Asura (demon) and entered the domain of Asuras. This is how he got the name ‘Bhandasura’.

In the mean time, from the remnants of the ash of Manmatha were born two demons – Vishukra and Vishanga. These two became the main brothers of Bhandasura. In addition, thousands of Rakshasas (demons) were born out of the ash of Manmatha. All of them became followers of Bhandasura. They formed a strong army of 300 Akshouhinis (one Akshouhini consists of 21870 elephants, 65610 horses and109350 soldiers). Having come to know about the birth of thousands of Rakshasas, Shukracharya (the guru of Rakshasas) came there and assumed the role of the Guru for all those Rakshasas and initiated them to undertake regular Anushthanas (daily rituals). He also summoned Maya, the architect-builder of demons and asked him to create a new city in the province of Mahendra Mountains. He named the city as ‘Shoonyaka Pattana’

Shukracharya asked all the demons to move to the new city. He crowned Bhandasura as the king of the newly formed kingdom and made Vishukra and Vishanga the Yuvarajas (princes) of that kingdom. Bhandasura had four wives.

1. Sammohini
2. Kumudini
3. Chitrangi
4.Sundari

Under the guidance of Shukracharya, activities like fire sacrifices, Vedic education and penance went on uninterruptedly in every house. Tormenting of the three worlds:

When the kingdom was well established, Bhandasura called for a meeting of his brothers and ministers and said:

A) Devatas (Gods) are our enemies. As long as Manmatha was alive, their lineage continued without any problems. They also enjoyed many pleasures.

B) Now, because of our luck, we have taken birth from the ashes of Manmatha. The gods are trying to see that Manmatha is born again. We should not allow that to happen. Before they try anything like that, we should kill the Devatas.

C) But, if we go in our present form, we can not win. Let us therefore assume the form of air and enter their bodies. D) After having so entered their bodies, let us dry up their body fluids, especially the semen.

E) If semen dries up, the strength of other tissues and organs will automatically diminish. Then they will automatically be annihilated.

F) Let us torment the beings of all the three worlds by entering their bodies in the form of air and by drying up their body fluids.

Hearing this, the entire army of the demons cheered with joy. Without wasting much time, Bhandasura and his army of 1000 Akshouhinis assumed the invisible form of air and entered the heaven. First of all, they entered the minds of the angels and dried up their mental faculties. Subsequently they entered the face of the angels, robbed them of their beauty and made them ugly looking. All the women and men in the heaven became impotent and sterile. Not only that, their love for one another was also lost. They lost enthusiasm to do anything. Even the plants and animals suffered the same fate.

Vishukra, along with his troupes entered Bhooloka (earth) and meted out the same treatment to the beings there. People on the planet earth stopped smiling. They lost all happiness. No one had any respect for another. No one thought of helping the other. They lost interest in their activities. The situation was stone-like, devoid of any life and feelings.

Vishanga, along with his troupes entered Rasaatala (one of the seven netherworlds). He created similar havoc there also. In the Naga Loka (land of serpents) everyone became afflicted with grief for no apparent reason. Everyone started hating everyone else. Everyone became drained of energy and potency. Rasa, the fluid principle is the basis for the accomplishment of the four-fold aims of life (Purusharthas). Let us see how.

A. Rasa itself is the form of Paramatma, the Almighty.

B. From Rasa are created Shukla (sperm) and Shonita (ovum). These two are collectively called as Veerya.

C. From Veerya comes Kanti (radiance), Utsaaha (enthusiasm), Ullasa(happiness), Dharma (righteousness), Daya (compassion), Preeti (love),Buddhi (intellectual capabilities), Vikasa (development), Parakrama (valour)Shastra Vijnana (scientific knowledge), Kala Asakti (interest in arts), Soundarya Drishti (proper concept of beauty) etc.

D. In plants, the Rasa enhances the fire energy, which is hidden in them. Only when the fire energy is harnessed, the plants can branch out and bear flowers and fruits. Because of this fire principle, the dried logs catch fire easily and burn.

E. The Vedas have declared that beings can experience happiness only if Rasais present. F. Rasa is nothing but Prana (vital energy). G. Having known all these secrets, Bhandasura devised the plan of entering the bodies of all beings in the form of air and drying them up.

Vasanta, the close friend and associate of Manmatha observed this immediately and consoled Rati (Manmatha’s wife). He said “Even the sun, the moon and the stars have lost their brilliance. Even Goddess Parvati seems to have become dull and has engaged in Tapas. Therefore, the day when your dead husband will come to life again is not very far. That day will come very soon. So, stop grieving.” On hearing this, Rati Devi prepared to undertake penance.

In the heaven, all the Devatas including Brahma, could not comprehend what was going on and what had caused the situation. Not knowing the remedy for their hardship, they approached Lord Sri Hari. When they finally reached the abode of Lord Sri Hari, they saw that even He was sitting still with his eyes closed. It appeared as though He was merged in the bliss of Sushupti.

After the angels praised His glory for a long time, Lord Sri Hari slowly opened His eyes. “What is this? Why are you all looking drained of your energies?” asked Lord Sri Hari. He called everyone by their names and said:

A. Your present condition is due to the invisible foul play of Bhandasura.

B. Even I have lost the affinity for Goddess Lakshmi. What to say about other lesser beings?

C. Myself, Brahma and Rudra are Karana Purushas (causal beings for the manifest creation). Even then, because we are also inhabiting this creation, even we can not escape the torture of Bhandasura. D. There is however one Almighty God who is beyond this manifest Brahmanda. He is called Maha Shambhu. Parashakti is constantly in His Company.

E. He is devoid of form. He is not dependent on anything. He has nomodifications. He is greater than the greatest. He is the ultimate.

F. He is not influenced by the foul play of Bhandasura, who is born from the ashes of Manmatha. G. He can rescue us from our difficulties. Therefore, let us all take refuge in Him and praise Him. Follow me.

So saying, Sri Hari led all the angels to the brim of the Brahmanda (Universe). There was a huge wall like fence there. The angels summoned the celestial elephants to break the wall. After toiling continuously for one year, a breach was formed in the wall. After passing through the breach, they saw Chinmaya Akasha, which was Niralamba (independent), Nirajnana (untainted) and which was devoid of the five elements. They all stood in that Chinmaya Akasha and sang the glory of Maha Shambhu, who was of the form of Chidakasha. Then Maha Shambhu appeared before them. He was dark like clouds. He had two hands. He was holding a Shoola (spear) in one hand and a Kapala (skull) in the other. He had three eyes. Parashakti also appeared before them. She was holding Aksha Mala (rosary of beads) and Pustaka (book) in Her hands. She was bright and cool like the moon.

The great Maha Shambhu smiled and said

A. I am aware why you have all come here.

B. Pralaya (destruction) is of three types. (i) Avaantara Pralaya (ii) Maha Pralaya and (iii) Kama Pralaya.

C. I am the one who is responsible to rescue the world from Maha Pralaya. Vishnu is the one who rescues from Aavantara Pralaya. It is Lalita Parameshwari who rescues from Kama Pralaya.

D. These three kinds of Pralaya take place in a cyclic pattern in every Kalpa. Now, Kaamika Pralaya has taken place because of the destruction of Kama and subsequently due to the actions of Bhandasura.

E. Only Lalita Devi can rescue from this situation. Parashakti alone can create another Lalita Devi. Therefore, take shelter in her. Beg her to help you.

Hearing this, the Devatas did not know what to do. They again prayed to Maha Shambhu to teach them the method of appeasing Parashakti.

Maha Shambhu explained:

A. This is called as Maha Yaga. (great fire sacrifice)

B. I am (assuming the form of Vayu) the Hota (the priest who makes the offerings in a Homa) in this Yaga (fire sacrifice).

C. My Chidagni itself is the fire in this Yaga.

D. The last of the seven seas, i.e., Jala Samudra (Water Sea) has now dried up. The huge pit so formed itself is the Homa Kunda (fire pit where Homa is performed)

E. The remaining six great oceans constitute the six drops of ghee which is used as offering.

F. Srishti (creation) is of five types (i) Manasa Srishti (ii) Jarayavee Srishti (creation-taking place through the womb.

G. Human beings), (iii) Anda Srishti (creation taking place through eggs) (iv) Swedaja Srishti (creation taking place through sweat) and (v) Udbhijja Srishti (creation taking place by sprouting). These five Srishtis (creations) are the sacrifice animals in this Maya Yaga.G. Bhoomi (land), Parvata (mountains), Jala (water), Vayu (air) and Akasha (space) these five are the substances used in this fire sacrifice. Agni element (one of the five elements) being a part of my Chidagni can not be a substance to be offered.

H. At the end of this great fire sacrifice, all of you (the performers of the Yaga) should jump in to the Homa Kunda (fire pit). While doing so, you must possess absolute devotion.

I. Then, Lalita Parameshwari will manifest.

J. She will be seated in a chariot called Chakra Raja Ratha.

K. She will create Parabrahma in the name of Kameshwara and will have Him as Her consort.

L. This couple will re-create the entire universe, which will turn out to be more beautiful than the previous creation.

M. Lalita Parameshwari will bring Manmatha back to life.

N. She will create four weapons, namely (i) Ikshu Dhanus – a bow of sugarcane (Mano roopekshu kodanda – is one of the 1000 names of Goddess Lalita) (ii) five Pushpa Banas – flower arrows (Pancha tanmatrasaayaka is one of the 1000 names), (iii) Paasha – noose (Raaga svaroopapaashaadhyaa – is one of the 1000 names of Lalita) and (iv) Ankusha (a hook, especially an elephant driver’s hook) (Krodha-akaaran kushojjvala is one of the descriptions of Lalita)

O. With the help of these weapons, she will destroy Bhandasura.

P. She will bring Manmatha back to life.

Q. She will give you fresh bodies.

R. If you all agree, I will begin this great sacrifice myself.

The angels became very pleased and begged Maha Shambhu to be the Hota and carry on the sacrifice. Parashakti and Maha Shambhu disappeared. The angels also returned to their abode.

After some time, Maha Shambhunatha, accompanied by Parashakti started chanting the Lalita Maha Mantra and entered the Universe in the form of the seven-layered Vayu (air). Parashakti assumed the form of His Kriya Shakti (energy of action). With the help of Kriya Shakti, Vayu blew the Jala Samudra with all his energy. The Jala Samudra (water ocean) became totally dry. In the pit thus formed He kindled the Chidagni with the help of fire emanating from the third eye. This Agni raged from the Patala (a region in the nether-world) to the Brahma Loka. He decorated the periphery of the Homa Kunda with the stars just as one decorates a sacrificial fire pit with flowers. After this, he performed the Yaga as ordained by the Vedas. He used the Pralaya Meghas (clouds appearing during Pralaya), namely Pushkala and Aavartakaas Srik and Sruva (the two spoons which are used to offer ghee in fire worship). As the Homa progressed, the Chidagni emanating from it spread to vast area. He then offered the first six oceans and then the five-fold creations to this Agni. In the end, the gods too decorated themselves and sat on the Srik and Sruva, ready to be offered to Agni. Maha Shambhunatha offered them to Agni. After this, Maha Shambhunatha discarded his Vayu form and assumed his real form. He then chanted 8 special mantras and performed 8 Homas. Manifestation of Lalita Devi

At the end of the Homa, Lalita Devi came out of the Chidagni Homa Kunda, seated on a special chariot called “Chakra Raja Ratha”. Therefore, we find the descriptions such as “Chidagnikunda sambhoota” “Deva kaarya samudyataa” and “Chakra Raja Rathaa Roodha Sarvaayudha Parishkritaa” in Lalita Sahasranama.

The Sri Chakra Raja Ratha had the following dimensions:

A. Width 4 Yojanas (1 Yojana is approximately 9 miles)

B. Height 10 Yojanas

C. Parvas (landings)9 in number

D. Chakras (wheels) – the four Vedas.

E. Horses – the four-fold aims (Purusharthas)

F. Flag absolute bliss.

G. The seat at the topmost landing is the Bindu Peetha.

H. Form – of the form of Meru Prastara.

I. The material that was used to make this was ‘Tejas’.

The Lalita Parameshwari so manifested, created a male form from within Herself. His name was Kameshwara. By her power of will, she created 4 different weapons. They were,

(i) Ikshu Dhanus

(ii) Five arrows

(iii) Pasha (noose)

(iv) Ankusha (a special hook).

She held all these weapons in her hands. We see the description – “Chaturbahu samanvitaa” in the Lalita Sahasranama. She was shining like the morning sun, with crimson color. (Udyad bhanusahasraabhaa is a description found in Lalita Sahasranama). Her beauty was full in all aspects. (Sarvarunaanavadyangee sarvaabharanabhooshitaa – Lalita Sahasranama). She always appears as though she is 16 years of age. (Nityaa shodashikaaroopaa is a description in Lalita Sahasranama. This description has two meanings. One meaning is that she always appears as one who is sixteen years of age. The other meaning is, there are 16 Nityaa Devis. She is of the form of these 16 Nityaa Devis. Maha Shambhunatha praised her in many ways. Order of Creation. She extended Herself in both male and female forms and continued the process of creation.

A. From the left eye, which was of the nature of Soma (moon) came Brahmaand Lakshmi Devi.

B. From the right eye, which was of the nature of Soorya (sun) came Vishnu and Parvati.

C. From the third eye, which was of the nature of Agni (fire), came Rudra and Sarasvati.

D. Lakshmi & Vishnu, Shiva & Parvati and Brahma & Sarasvati became couples.

E. Lalita Devi directed them to continue the process of Creation. She herself continued to create certain things.

(i) From her long hair she created darkness.

(ii) From her eyes, she created the sun, the moon and the fire.

(iii) From the pendent hanging in front of her forehead came the stars.

(iv) From the chain above her forehead came the nine planets.

(v) From the eyebrows, she created the penal code.

(vi) From her breath, she created the Vedas.

(vii) From her speech, she created poetry and plays.

(viii) From her chin she created the Vedangas.

(ix) From the three lines in her neck, she created various Shaastras.

(x) From her breasts, she created mountains.

(xi) From her mind, she created the power of bliss.

(xii) From her fingernails, she created the 10 incarnations of Vishnu.

(xiii) From her palms, she created the Sandhyas.

(xiv) She created other things as narrated in the Purusha Sookta.

(xv) From her heart, she created Baalaa Devi.

(xvi) From her intellect, she created Shyamala Devi.

(xvii) From her ego, she created Vaaraahi Devi.

(xviii) From her smile, she created Vighneshwara.

(xix) From the Ankusha (a special hook), she created Sampatkaree Devi.

(xx) Form the noose, she created Ashwaa Roodha Devi.

(xxi) From her cheeks, she created Nakuleshvari Devi.

(xxii) From her Kundalini Shakti, she created Gayatri.

(xxiii) From the eight wheels of the Chakra Raja chariot, she created 8 Devatas.

(xxiv) In the 9th landing, in the Bindu Peetha, she herself was seated.

(xxv) Afterwards, she created the Devatas who would protect the Chakra Rajachariot.

After having thus completed the great creation, Lalita Devi requested her consort, Shiva Kama Sundara to created the Shiva Chakra. He immediately brought out a big humming sound and from this, the Shiva Chakra Devatas numbering 23 manifested. Later, Lalita Devi crowned Shyamala Devi as the prime minister. Therefore Shyamala Devi is called Mantrini Devi. Lalita Devi handed over the finger ring to Mantrini Devi.

She made Vaartaalee Devi the chief of her army. Therefore Vaartaalee Devi is also called as Dandanaathaa Devi. She is also called as Vaaraahee Devi. Lalita Devi created a mace (a weapon) from her eye brows and gave it to Dandanathaa Devi. After this, Lalita Devi created two chariots from her chariot and gave them to Mantrini Devi and Dandanatha Devi. Mantini Devi’s chariot is called “Geya Chakra Ratha”. This chariot used to make musical sounds whenever it moved. Dandanatha Devi’s chariot is called “Kiri Chakra Ratha”. Later, Lalita Devi hummed with rage. From this hum, 64000000 Yoginis were born. Another 64000000 Bhairavas were also born. Innumerable Shakti Senas (armies) were also created by her hum.

Devi vijaya yatra (Devi’s victory procession) Later Lalita devi, making the noise emanating from the four oceans as the drums and accompanied with several other instruments proceeded for the battle against Bhandasura. From Lalitha devi’s Ankusham (=spear), ‘Sampat karidevi’, came out along with crores and crores of elephants and started following Lalita devi (sampatkarisamarudha sindhura vraja sevita). Sampatkari Devi was sitting on the elephant named ‘Ranakolahalam’ (=battlebustle, battle uproar). From Lalita devi’s Pasham (=whip) arose Ashwaroodha devi along with a big army of horses and was moving in front of Lalita devi.(ashwarudhadhishtishtaswa koti kotibhiravruta) . The horse carrying Ashwaroodha devi was named ‘Aparajitam’ (=one whichcannot be defeated). Later , commander of the army Dandanatha devi played the drums to startmarching. As the march started Dandanatha devi got down from her chariot and sat down on the lion. The lion is named ‘Vajraghosham’ (kirichakra ratha rudha damdanadhapuraskruta).

All her soldiers started praising her by twelve different names. (Panchami dandanatha cha sakjeta samayeshwaritatha samaya sakjeta varahi potrini tathavartali cha maha sena pyajna chakreshwari tathaarighni cheti samproktam nama dwadasakam yune). Later Mantrini devi played the drums of marching. Her soldiers were mainly decorated sensuously. They were playing veenas and singing. Mantrini devi was moving in her Geyachakra ratha (circle of army formed by singers) [geyachakra ratha rudha mantrini parisevita). She was being praised by sixteen names. (Sangeeta yogini shyama shyamala mantra nayikamantrini sachiveshani pradhaneshi shukapriyavina vati vainiki cha mudrini priyakapriyanipapriya kadambeshi kadamba vanavasinisadamada cha namani shodashaitaini kumbhaja) One who recites this strotra can conquer all the three worlds.

Then, from the bird in the hands of Mantrini devi, appeared god Dhanurveda with a spectacular bow in his hand and said “Mother! this bow is called chitrajeevam. This quiver is akshaya (=one which is unlimited, fills up spontaneously). Please accept them for demolishing the demons.” Now Lalita devi started moving with sugarcane, bow, arrows, spear and whip in the ‘srichakraraja’chariot. She is being praised with 25 names –

Bandasura vadhodyukta shaktisena samanvita in Lalita sahasranama stotram

means one who is ready with her army (shakti sena) to annihilate Bhandasura.

Bhanda’s war preparation: While Lalita devi was proceeding for the war, many bad omens were observed in Bhanda’s ‘Shunyaka’ town. Bhandasura called upon an urgent meeting along with his brothers Vishukra and Vishanga to assess and evaluate the situation. In the meeting Vishukra spoke thus:

a.) All gods have burnt themselves by jumping into fire, out of despair.

b.) From that fire arose mother goddess, who rejuvenated all gods

c.) She is coming for a war with us, along with an army of women

d.) Those gods are trying to cut stones using tender leaves

e.) Even then we should not neglect that woman. We must send our army immediately.

Vishanga said:

a.) Any work should only be done after properly thinking about it.

b.) First we must send spies and see how powerful their army is.

c.) We must not under estimate the enemies army.

d.) In the past Hiranyakashipa was killed by an animal.

e.) Sumbha and Nishumbha were killed by a woman.

f.) So, we must get more information about her

g.) Who is she? Who is supporting or protecting her? What does she want? All these queries should be answered.

Listening to this Bhandasura shuddered at the proposal with a sarcastic grin. “Even if all the gods are behind her, we have nothing to fear. Do not entertain such useless thoughts and spoil your mind”.

Immediately Bhandasura ordered ‘Kutilaksha’, Commander-in-chief of his army, to protect the fort. He ordered the priests and ministers to perform abhichara (black magic) homa. He ordered Lalita to be dragged to him holding her hair. Now, the demons played the war drums. Kutilaksha sent the first batch of army with demon Durmada as the commander..At Shunyapura Kutilaksha made arrangements for protection – Eastern entry _ Tala jangha, Southern entry – Tala bhuja, Western entry — Talagriva, Northern entry – Tala ketu were placed along with 10 akshohini army each. For each corner of the town another 10 akshohini was allocated for protection.

Shakti senas’s uproar. Durmada was confronted by Sampatkaridevi and her army of elephants (who arose from Lalita devi’s spear). Realising that his army was being defeated Durmada himself came for the war seated on a camel. Sampatkari devi who was seated on ‘Ranakolahala’ her elephant, faced him. In the ferocious battle Durmada was able to destroy one gem from the crown of Sampatkari devi. Angry with this, Sampatkari devi killed Durmada with her arrows which pierced his heart. With that the remaining demons fled back to their town out of fear.

Listening to this Bhandasura was very angry and sent Durmada’s elder brother Kurunda for battle. He is an expert in maya yuddha (war using mystical powers). Full of vengeance he attacked Sampatkari devi. In the meanwhile Ashwarudha devi who had taken birth from Lalita devi’s whip came forward and pleaded Sampatkari devi to give her a chance to fight with this demon. Now Ashwarudha devi along with her army pounced upon Kurunda. Ashwarudha devi mounted on ‘Aparajita’ was herself leading the army. In that battle she killed Kurunda by piercing his chest with her spear. Remaining demonsfled for their lives.

Bhanda became furious. He sent a huge army this time (100 akshohini) along with 5 commanders. They materialised serpent gods by name ‘Ranashambari’ which attacked shaktisena. The demons had previously defeated gods using these mystic powers. Crores and crores of serpents, which arose from the serpent gods, started torturing the shaktisena. They were taking birth again and again even after being killed a number of times. Then Nakuli devi mounted on garuda came to the battlefield. From her mouth came out 32 crores of mongooses. These mongooses started gobbling up all the newborn serpents immediately after birth. Then Nakuli devi killed Ranashambari with Garudastram. All the five commanders now attacked Nakuli devi. Nakuli devi’s mongoose army attacked them from the rear. In that ferocious battle Nakuli devi who was mounted on Garuda was making aerial strikes on the demons who were not able to catch her. She killed the five commanders by chopping of their heads.

Bhanda after listening to this sent Valahaka and other seven commanders along with 300 akshohini army. These seven demons are sons of demoness named Kikasa. In the past they obtained a boon from sun god that at the time of war sun would reside in theireyes. As soon as these demons entered the battlefield the shakti sena army started becoming blindfolded and incapacitated unable to face the brilliance of their eyes. Demons started becoming ferocious. Immediately the bodyguard of Dandanatha devi –named Tiraskarinika devi, entered the battle field mounted on an aeroplane named ‘Tamoliptam’.

At the order of Damdanatha devi she discharged an arrow named ‘Andhanastra’ and the seven commanders were forced to close their eyes. Now shakti sena started pouncing back. Keeping Tiraskarinika devi in the forefront, other gods killed the seven commanders. With this blow Bhandasura lost his senses. He called upon his two brothers for a discussion.

In that meeting it was decided that Vishanga would attack devi’s army from its rear side in a treacherous way (This is called Parshti grahamu). This decision was taken because they got information from their spies that Lalita devi was having less army and protection at her rear end and it was easier for them to approach Lalita devi directly and attack her, if they approached from the rear. After the first day’s war, at dusk, Vishanga with a small army proceeded to the rear of Lalita devi’s army noiselessly without any drums. By then Lalita devi’s army was moving westward. Vishanga along with his army moved north wards and then turned to reach eastern side. He was able to see Srichakraraja chariot very near to him. Lalita devi was looking forward observing the movement of the army. She was not having much army close to her. Taking this opportunity Vishanga attacked devi’s chariot from the rear, all of a sudden.

Anima and other gods who were present there were taken back at this sudden attack but quickly recovered themselves and prepared for a counter fight. Exactly at the same time Kutilaksha along with ten akshohini army attacked from the front side. Seeing attack from both ends Lalita devi was a little angry. In the mean while, struck by an arrow from Vishanga, the fan present in Lalita devi’s hand fell down and broke. Seeing this Tithidevatas got very angry. They went and requested Lalita devithat Vahnivasini and Jwalamalini nitya devas have property and capacity of self illumination. If they glow then the demons who are in the dark will all become visible. With the permission of Lalita devi, Vahnivasini and Jwalamalini devis started glowing like fireballs. All the demons who were hiding in darkness now became visible. Now the 16 nitya devi’s became outrageous and attacked Vishanga’s army. All the commanders in the demons army died. Wounded all over the body Vishanga fled for his life shamelessly.

Even Kutilaksha who attacked from the front also fled. (In Lalita sahasranama – nityaparakrama topa nirikshana samatsuka = seeing the valour of nityadevatas, Lalita devi was very pleased). Mantrini devi and Dandanatha devi felt unhappy about this unprecedented attack in the night They felt very sorry that their arrangements of protection were not up to the mark. Agni prakara (compound wall made of fire). Both of them went to Lalita devi, expressed sorry for what had happened and made arrangements for protection. At the instance of Lalita devi, Jwalamalini devi made a compound wall of fire around the devi’s army The fire wall is 100 yojana wide and 30 yojana tall. (1 yojana is approximately 8 miles). At the southern end of fire wall is a 1 yojana long entry, to enable devi’s army to go out and fight because Shunyapuram is facing this end. (L.S.N—jwalamalinikashipta vahniprakaramadhyaga)Stambhini devi a member of Dandanatha devi family along with 20 akshohinisenas was protecting this entry point. She is also called Vighna devi. By then it was dawn.

Knowing all this news Bhandasura was in despair and started thinking what to do. This time he sent all his 30 sons for the war. After listening to this news Lalita devi’s daughter Baladevi wanted to fight these demons herself. Baladevi is the only daughter of Lalita devi .She resembles Lalita devi very much but is always only years old .She stays permanently with her mother.. Baladevi approached her mother and requested for permission to fight in the battlefield.. At the outset Lalita devi denied but looking at the courage and will power exhibited by Bala devi she ultimately gave permission. Seeing Bala devi coming for the war Mantrini and Dandanayaka were astonished and they stood as her body guards. Now Baladevi started ferocious fighting with Bhanda’s sons. Every one was surprised at her valor. Whole of the second day Baladevi fought. That evening she shot 30 arrows at a time and killed the 30 sons of Bhanda.

Lalita devi was very happy and she embraced her daughter (Bhanda putra vadhodyukta bala vikrama nandita).

Bhanda was grief stricken. Desperately he himself started off for the war. Vishukra and Vishanga pacified Bandasura.

Vighnayentra nashnam (Destruction of the mystic symbol of obstacles). Now Bhanda sent Vishukra to the warfront. In the darkness Vishukra approached the Vahniprakara (firewall) –on a flat stone he drew a mystic symbol and performed some black magic. He then threw that mystic symbol forcefully. It fell in the firewall at some point. With the affect of that yantra (mystic symbol) laziness crept into the minds ofthe devi’s army. Some started arguing that war itself was wrong. (b.) Some said, “Why should we fight on behalf of the gods”. (c.) Some said, “Who is this Lalita devi? Who has given her superior ship over us?” (d.) Some said, “If all of us together decline not to fight what can Lalita devi do?” (e.) All of them fell into sleep of ignorance. After midnight Vishukra along with 30 akshohini sena surrounded the fire barrier. Even then none of the members of shakti sena moved under the influence of the ignorance caused by the Vighna yantra. However, Vighnayentra was not able to affect Mantrini and Dandanatha. But they were both very sad worried seeing the state of their army. Not knowing what to do they went and enquired Lalita devi. Then Lalita devi looked at the Kameshwara’s face and passed a gentle smile. From her smile Ganapathi took birth. He immediately searched in the firewall and noticed the ‘vighnayentra shila’ at one place. He broke the shila into pieces and powder with his tooth. (kameshwaramukhaloka kalpita sri ganeshwara Mahaganesha nirbhinna vighnayentra praharsita). With that shaktisena’s ignorance and sleep was dispelled, they immediately got ready for the war. Now Vighneswara along with this army came out of the fire barrier and started fighting with Vishukra.

Vishukra sent Gajasura to attack him but soon Gajasura was slayed. Seeing this Vishukra ran away.

Annihilation of Vishukra and Vishanga. After discussing with Bhandasura, Vishukra came back to war, along with his brother Vishanga and son-in-law. With this the third day war had started. Mantrini and Dandanatha both started to fight simultaneously. In the front was Dandanatha devi mounted on her kirichakra ratha with her plough weapon (halayudha) swirling it rapidly. Behind her was Mantrini devi mounted on Geyachakra ratha as an archer with bow and arrows. Dandanatha devi attacked Vishunga. Mantrini devi confronted Vishukra.. Ashwarudha, Sampatkari and others attacked the son- in-law of the demons who had come..The army of the demons started slackening. Noticing this Vishukra discharged Trushastram (weapon which produces thirst). Shaktisena’s army started to experience intense thirst. Then Dandanatha devi invited ‘Madyasamudra’(=ocean of liquor) devata from her kirichakra and quenched their thirst. Madyasamudra deva showered liquor rains. With that the army quenched their thirst and rejuvenated.. By sunset most of the demons including Bhanda’s son-in-law had died. Then Shyamala devi (Mantrini) fought with Vishukra and killed him with ‘Brahmashironamakastra’ (a powerful weapon named brahmashira). Dandanatha devi (Potrini) killed Vishanga with her plough weapon and pestle. However in Lalita sahasranama it is mentioned that Vishukra was killed by Varahiand Vishanga was killed by Mantrini-Mantrinyamba virachita vishanga vadhatoshitaVishukra prana harana varahiveryanandita. By then it was past midnight.

Only Kutilaksha the commander in chief was left over to console Bhandasura. Bhanda along with Kutilaksha started towards the battlefield. 2185 akshohini army along with 40 commanders followed him.

A). He boarded a chariot named ‘Aabhilamu’(=dreadful). It is dragged by 1000lions instead of horses.

B). His sword is named Yatana (= torture in hell).

Noticing this Lalita devi herself started moving in her Srichakra raja ratha towards the warfront. Behind her was Mantrini in the Geyachakra ratha followed by Potrini in kirichakraratha. Other shakti deities followed her in crores. In the usage of sastra’s (mystic weapons) and pratyastra (corresponding neutralising weapons), none of them were drawn aback (LSN—Bhandasurendra nirmukta shastra pratyastra varshini)

Now Bandasura by his mystical powers regenerated Madhukaitabha, Raktabija and other old demons. Then Lalita devi made a violent frenzied laughter –Durga devi and other deities described in chandi saptashati were born and slayed these demons. Now Bhanda generated Somaka and other demons. Then Lalita devi generated the 10 incarnations of Vishnu from the finger tips of her hands (LSN – Karanguli nakhotpanna narayana dasakrutih). Sun was about to set. Lalita devi decided not to delay any more. She then discharged Narayana astra and Pashupata astra and destroyed the demons and their commanders who were all turned into ashes (Mahapashupatastragni nirdagdhasura sainyaka). Now Bhandasura was the only one left. Lalita devi discharged the Mahakameshawarastra and annihilated Bhandasura. Immediately his shunyaka town got burnt down. (Kameshwarastra nirdagdhasabhandasura sunyaka.

Gods proclaimed victory of Lalita devi on the drums and they showered flowers, lighted camphor blazes and shouted victory slogans.

Kama sanjeevanam (rebirth of kama). Brahma, Vishnu, Indra and other gods praised Lalita devi’s grandeur (LSN—Brahmopendra mahendradi deva samstuta vaibhava). In that praise they proclaimed thus:

A.) Mother! Bhanda is dead but his friend Taraka is still alive to trouble us.

B.) To annihilate him Shiva must have a son

C.) We were trying for the same but in the mean while Manmadha (god of love) died and all these events happened

D.) Therefore kindly give rebirth to Manmadha and perform the marriage of Shiva and Parvathi.

Lalita devi smiled compassionately and looked at Kameshwara. From her looks Manmadha took rebirth .(Haranetragni sandagdha amasanjeevanaushadhih – meaning Lalita devi is the sacred herb sajeevini which gave rebirth to Manmadha who was destroyed by the fire from Shiva’s eye). Rati and Manmadha prostrated to the mother goddess and praised her.

The mother goddess blessed them and instructed:

A.) Manmadha! Now you need not fear

B.) Go once again and cast your magical arrow on Shiva

C.) Shiva will loose to you and will marry Parvathi

D.) With my blessings Shiva will do you no harm.

E.) From now on you can enter every ones body and cause aesthetic/ sensuous pleasures to them.

F.) Protect my devotees.

At the instructions of mother goddess Manmadha with his family went and cast his magic charm on Shiva. This time Shiva left renunciation and started searching vehemently for parvathi. Then Manmadha cast magical arrows on Parvati also. Shiva was very pleased with parvathi’s penance. He appeared before her, granted a boon and married her. Kumaraswamy was born to Shiva and Parvathi. He became the commander of Gods army and annihilated Tarakasura.

After helping all the gods Manmadha left to Sripura to serve goddess Lalita devi.

Navaratri fourth day Incarnation is Maa Gayatri Devi and history of Gayatri Devi

Gayatri devi is an Incarnation of Saraswati devi, wife of lord Brahma deva, symbolizing the "shakthi"(strength) and "dev"(quality) of knowledge, purity and virtue. With the blessings of lord Brahma she is believed to have given the four veda's to mankind.

Gayatri is depicted seated on a lotus. She is depicted with five faces muktha, vidruma, hema, neela, dhawala shaded colors, had 10 hands carrying shanka, chakra, gadha, kasha, ujjwala utensil, kamala, abhaya, ankusha, varadha, rudraksha mala.

She is the god of all vedas so she named as Vedamata, Jagadhambika. Lord Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu are the weapons of her. She had Fire(Agni) in her face, Brahma in head, Vishnu in her heart, Shiva on top of the head. All Devata's and Brahmin's worship her at the early mornings and evenings.

In the real Gayatri means the prayer done in the evening times and that shakthi is called as Gayatri. People who had taken sacred upanayanam those people compulsorily chant this Gayatri mantra in the evenings(Trisandhya).

OM is the origin of all mantras, all the srusti, sthithi, laya invloves in this OM mantra. The Gayatri mantra is equal to this OM mantra, so it's most powerful and highly chanted mantra.

Normal people who doesn't take the Upanayanam including ladies chant Lalitha Sahasranama Strotram for them it's equal to Gayatri mantra. Gayatri mantra is having 3 pada's, 24 syllabus, mantra motive includes all japa, tapa and others so, the mata really gets pleased to people who chant her.

                                         "Om bhur bhuvah suvaha

                                          Tat savitur varenyam

                                          Bhargo devasya dhemahi

                                          Dheeyo yonah prachodayat"

We should chant this mantra calmly then only that shakthi improves well. Gayatri mantra is meant for realization of God and is regarded as representing the supreme Lord. It is meant for spiritually advanced people. Success in chanting enables one enter the transcendental position of the Lord. But, in order to chant Gayatri mantra, it is necessary for one to first acquire the qualities of the perfectly balanced person in terms of the qualities of the goodness according to the laws of material nature. The Gayatri mantra is very important in Vedic civilization.

Navaratri third day Incarnation is Maa Annapurna and history of Annapurna Devi

In Hinduism, Goddess Annapoorna, or Annapurna Devi, is the Goddess of food. In this incarnation she nourishes all living beings and therefore Hindus consider ‘ Annam ’ (food) as holy. There is an interesting incident involving Lord Shiva and Goddess Annapoorna, which explains that even Moksha (salvation) is not possible on an empty stomach.

In Sanskrit Language the word ‘Anna’ means food and grains and ‘Purna’ means full or complete. It is believed that by worshiping this goddess one will never be out of food anytime in life. She is a form of the Goddess Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva. She is depicted with a jeweled vessel containing food in one hand and a spoon in the other to distribute the food to her devotees.

In this sense Aannapurna DEVI is a true MOTHER-because she "nourishes" her devotees and looks after her devotees just like a mother looks after her children.
We all know we cannot live without food -so by giving us food, in fact, mother Annapurna devi is keeping us alive- she supports us- food is indeed "brahman" says the CHANDOGYA upanishads.
THUS, ANNAPURNA PROVIDES US THE LIFE-GIVING "FOOD"! BUT, she also nourishes our soul ! "BUKTI-MUKTI Pradayini! "
Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati used to play the game of dice. Once the game became so interesting that they started betting – Parvati kept her jewels and Shiva his trident. Shiva lost the game and lost his trident.
To get back his trident, Shiva betted serpent and this time too he lost the game. Finally, when the game ended, Shiva lost all that he had including his begging bowl.
A humiliated Shiva left for the Deodar forest. Lord Vishnu approached Shiva and asked him to play again to win back all that he had lost.
Taking advice from Vishnu, Shiva played again and won all that he had lost in the previous game.
Goddess Parvati grew suspicious about Shiva’s sudden turn of fortunes and called him a cheat. This led to a verbal duel between the couple. Finally, Lord Vishnu intervened and revealed that the dice moved as per His wish and they were under the illusion that they were playing.
Symbolically, life is like a game of dice - unpredictable and beyond control.
Verbal duel soon turned to philosophical discussion and Lord Shiva said that possessions are temporary…everything is Maya (illusion)…even the food we eat is Maya.
Goddess Parvati did not agree that food is illusion. She argued that if food is illusion I am also an illusion. She wanted to know how the world would survive without food and disappeared.
Her disappearance meant Nature came to a stand still. There were no seasonal changes. Everything remained barren. There was regeneration or birth. Soon there was severe drought and shortage of food.
Shiva soon realized that he is incomplete without Shakti.
Gods, humans and demons all kept praying for food. Goddess Parvati could not see her children perishing out hunger and appeared in Kashi ( Varanasi ) and started distributing food.
Shiva appeared before her with a begging bowl and Goddess Parvati fed Shiva. Shiva said that food cannot be dismissed as mere illusion as it is required to nourish the body in which resides the Atma.
Since then Goddess Parvati is worshipped as the Goddess of food – Annapoorna Devi.

Navaratri Second day Incarnation is Maa BalaTripuraSundari and the story behind the origin of BalaTripuraSundari is

'Tripura' means 'the three cities,' and 'sundarī' means 'beautiful,' specifically a beautiful female. Therefore, her name means 'Beautiful (Goddess) of the Three Cities'.

Tripurasundari is described as being of dusky, red, or golden in color, depending on the meditational form, and in union with Shiva. The couple are traditionally portrayed on a bed, a throne, or a pedestal that is upheld by Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Ishana(another form of Shiva, depicted in the Tantras) and Sadashiva forming the plank. She holds five arrows of flowers, a noose, a goad and a sugarcane as a bow. The noose represents attachment, the goad represents repulsion, the sugarcane bow represents the mind and the arrows are the five sense objects.

Bala Tripurasundari is another form of Tripurasundari, depicted as an independent young pre pubescent goddess who is 9 years of age, also known as a kumari. She is said to be the daughter of Lalita Maha Tripurasundari. Bala Tripurasundari's mantra and yantra differs completely from that of Maha Tripurasundari.

According to Her dhyana, Bala (Baa-laa) is the color of the rising sun, smiling lightly; She has four hands. She holds a rosary and abook in Her two upper hands; the lower hands show the abhaya andvarada mudras. She is seated on a blue lily (*not* lotus).I do not know of any precise ontological relationship to Saraswati, other than to say they are both aspects of the one Devi.

Nora
Is Bala Devi the same as Bala Tripurasundari as in Lalitopakhyana. I found this excerpt. Lalitopakhyana (The story of the Goddess Lalita) Agni prakara (compound wall made of fire)

"Both of them went to Lalita devi, expressed sorry for what had happened and made arrangements for protection. At the instance of Lalita devi, Jwalamalini devi made a compound wall of fire around the devi's army The fire wall is 100 yojana wide and 30 yojana tall. (1 yojana is approximately 8 miles).

Navaratri Incarnations(Avarataralu) Specials

Navaratri First Day Incarnation is Maa Durga and the story behind the origin of DurgaDevi is :

After the death of Tarakasur by Shiva's son Kartikeya, the demon brothers Rambh and Karambh came on the throne. Their mother Danu instructed them to do tapas and obtain desired boons. Hence, Rambh and Karambh did tapas to please Agni and Varun (Fire/Water) respectively. Rambh started doing tapas in Agni chakra whereas Karambh was being half immersed in river water while doing penance. Lord Indra took disguise of a crocodile and killed Karambh while Rambh successfully comepleted his tapas and got a boon from Agni that he will obtain an extremely powerful son, who will rule over the three worlds in this universe. Rambh fell in love with Mahishi (buffalo woman) and got married to her. Mahishi soon got pregnant by Rambh. Once her lover, a Mahish, tried to misbehave with her then Rambh came to protect his wife and Rambh got killed by the Mahish. In the cremation process of Rambh, Mahishi jumped into the fire, to sacrifice her life to express her love for her husband. She did that to stop Yama from taking away the soul of Rambh. Hence, Rambh got retained into the womb of Mahishi. Hence, from cremation fire, emerged two demons namely Rakthbeej (rebirth of Rambh) and Mahishasur (the child of Rambh). Mahishasur also did tapas and obtained a boon from Lord Brahma, that he wont be killed by any man. Mahishasur thought that he has obtained immortality(death less) indirectly by this boon as according to him, a lady would never be able to kill a powerful demon like him. At the same time, while Mahishasur was doing tapas, Parvati too started with a penance to get rid of her dark complexion, which was developed over her fair skin, due the tapas she had done to obtain Lord Shiva as her husband. While she was engrossed(deeply involved) in her tapas, Shiva came up to her and washed off her face with the water of Ganga, due to which, Parvati's dark complexion shedded from her and got accumulated over the plants present there. In this way, Parvati justified her name Maha Gauri. The very place where she had shedded her dark complexion was the place, where Rishi Katyayan's wife used to do gardening and used the same plantations for cooking purpose. In course of time, Narayani got pregnant. At the same time, Mahishasur reached the peak of evilness by mercilessly killing human beings, who were doing worship of gods. All the Gods including Indra, Varun, etc. and also Shiva and Brahma gathered at the Vishnu's realm to seek help from the protector(Vishnu) of the world as to what could be done. Lord Vishnu instructed all the gods to combine their powers. The combination of the powers of all Gods including Trinity, Indra, etc. fell upon Mars. The planet Mars directed that combination of that powers to Katyayan's child who was about to take birth, as it's ruling planet was Mars. Narayani gave birth to a girl who was named as Katyayani being the daughter of sage Katyayan. She was the incarnation of Mahalakshmi as she had the powers of all Gods and those powers were nothing but brightness and the beej mantra was 'Hreem'. She was so powerful and independent that as she grew up, she started living in the forest Madamba Kadamba. The only thing that was missing was beauty as she was born from the dark cell of Parvati. But as she grew up, all the Gods started praying to her (Mahalakshmi) and gathered near her. The Sea God(Samudra) presented her various ornaments, jewelries, a beautiful crown to wear. All the Gods presented her with the clone of their weapons like Lord Vishnu gave a clone of his discus, Lord Shiva gave trisulam, etc. In this way, she had to develop eighteen hands to hold all the weapons presented by various male Gods. Hence, she came to be known as eighteen-handed Mahalakshmi. Himavanth, father of ParvatiDevi, presented a Lion to Goddess Katyayani to ride upon. Soon the battle between Goddess Katyayani and demons army started. She created the same number of female warriors to fight the male demons army. Finally, her army won over the demon army and Katyayani killed many demons like Shichsur, Asiloma, Vidhan, Vashkaal, Ugrasen, Ramchandi etc. Finally, Mahishasur came in forefront to battle with the Goddess. Mahishasur failed to battle with goddess without using his supernatural powers, which he had to use. Finally he kept changing form from lion to elephant, elephant to buffalo. At last, Goddess removed ornaments, removed all pure attributes and transformed into Chandi (with ten arms, not eighteen) and killed Mahishasur. She promised all the Gods mainly Indra that she will reappear at the time, when they needed her again. Afterwhich, she fused back into Parvati's body.

Ganesh Chathurdhi (Vinayaka Chavithi)

Ganesh is the son of Godess Parvathi Devi and Lord Shiva. He is the only god who makes the whole world get rid of obstacles and from halfwit. The story behind his birth is after skhira sagara mdhanam Lord Shiva goes to meditation for long period, so in his absence the world gets edicted to halfwit and many unfortune and evil things happen, so all other gods come to Parvathi Devi and asks her to give birth to a child who makes all unfortune things fortune and all sins become boons by just looking at him. According to the request maa Parvathi makes an idol thinking about Shiva with the paste(made of turmeric, mung dal etc used to clean the body while taking bath) taken from her body after that with mantras and her shakthi she gives life to that idol and names him as "Vinayaka". After long tapas/meditation Shiva will be returning to kailas and this news will be known by Parvathi Devi so she thinks to get ready for his arrival and thought to get freshen up and do pooja before Lord Shiva returns to kailas but in middle Nandi and remaining gana's will stop her questioning what to get for pooja etc, she then tells Vinayaka to stand infront of her ekantha room and not let anyone come inside till her pooja gets finished and gives him vundrallu (laddus at north side) to eat and a weapon to protect himself (laddus at north side).

Shiva returns to kailas (he already knows about vinayaka without his wish maa Parvathi will not do any thing) he comes to meet Parvathi Devi but the small boy infront of the gate doesn't let him go inside Shiva tries to make him understand that he is his father and he is going to meet his wife but the boy doesn't listen to him and rudely tells him that he won't allow him. Lord Shiva leaves from there. Devendra, Nandi and some other gods come to take Vinayaka to Shiva but he doesn't listen to them and beats them rudely, they run to Lord Shiva with afraid and conveys their pain to him, then Lord Shiva gets angry on ill treatment of Vinayaka to remaining gods and he goes to him but he treats the same, then Shankara tells him this head weight of a person drags him to under ground and cuts his head with his trishulam (weapon).

After taking bath and performing pooja Parvathi Devi comes outside to see whether Shiva returned back and looks at the dead body of her son without head and comes to know of all that happened and he turns to Durga matha and strats destructing the whole world, then all other gods request Lord Shiva to calm down Parvathi Devi, he says only rebirth of Vinayaka makes her calm, so he sends Nandi and team towards east and tells them to bring the creature head of whom they see first, then Nandi goes long but he doesn't find any thing he gets disappointed, at that moment he sees an elephant there and goes to it. Then that elephant says to Nandi that he is happy that he got the time for moksha and continues telling him that he got a boon from Shankara that he will stay with him and he will be treated as god and tells them to do what ever they want he will support them. Nandi with super happy cuts the elephant head and returns to kailas, there lord Shiva attaches the head to the body of Vinayaka and lord Vishu gives him life.

Parvathi Devi is very fond and names him as "Gajanana" and makes him as first one to be treated among gods. Vinayaka is fond of vundrallu and he is the one with utmost samskaar and treats his parents with lots of respect. He is the origin to ultimate knowledge, he will be fond for simple rituals and so he is very happy with what he has so always he will be dancing (a person with troubles and sadness can never dance all the time).

Vinayaka gets married to Siddhi and Buddhi there is a wording that Siddhi and Buddhi are for knowledge but Vinayaka he himself is the origin to knowledge, so these to Siddhi and Buddhi came from himself.

On the auspicious day Badrapadha Chathurdhi comes between august and september Parvathi devi appoints vinayaka as the first god to be worshiped.

Ganesh is called as Vigneswarudu which means Lord of Vignas (Obstacles). Puranas say that we have to worship Lord Ganesh before starting any work, so that you will not get any obstacles in middle of the work and your work completed successfully.

IT managers, engineers hardest to find: Study

NEW DELHI: IT manager/network administrator, engineer, accountant and software developers are some of the positions that are the hardest to fill globally, says a study.

According to a new global study from human capital solutions firm CareerBuilder, companies around the world have at least one thing in common: difficulty filling in-demand jobs as organisations struggle to find qualified candidates.

In India, the positions that take the longest to fill include -- IT manager/network administrator, computer programmer, accountant, engineer, administrative assistant/ secretary and marketing professional.

This survey was conducted online within the US, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia and the UK by Harris Interactive on behalf of CareerBuilder from May 9 to June 5, 2013 and included more than 5,000 hiring managers and human resource professionals.

The survey further noted that while the positions that take the longest to fill vary from country to country, there are some similarities across the globe as engineering and technology positions and revenue-driving roles such as sales and customer service generally take the longest time to fill.

Besides engineering and technology positions and revenue- driving roles like sales and customer service, countries like US, Russia had difficulty to fill positions like truck driver and security guard, while Japan had difficulty to fill positions like construction worker and tradesperson, it said.

Commenting on the findings, CareerBuilder CEO Matt Ferguson said : "Any positions that remain open for an extended period of time can negatively impact both the financial health of a company and its overall employee morale."

Ferguson added that "we see more hiring managers embracing data tools that can measure market demand and supply of relevant labour in specific geographies, so they can adjust their recruitment strategies and fill vacancies in a timely manner."

Chennai techie's gloves gives voice to hand gestures

LONDON: In a breakthrough that may help those with severe voice difficulties to communicate, an aerospace engineerChennai has created the world's most unique glove that converts simple finger movements into gestures which control speech through a synthesized voice. The user simply wears the glove and moves their fingers in order to articulate more than 1,000 words or commands.

Inventor Vinoth Gurusamy (25), who recently completed his masters in aerospace engineeringthe University of Sheffield but isChennai, said the glove blends into the users' clothes and is one of the fastest means of communication.

Since last year, Vinoth and his team Kalhana Colombage (25) and Hossein Mohanna (28) have been working closely with a 73-year-old manSheffield, William Broad who suffered a stroke in 2010 that left him unable to talk. After wearing the miraculous gloves, the former steel-worker is now able to articulate more than 16 words and phrases including 'I am hungry', 'I am thirsty', 'my name is William', 'thank you' and 'what time is it'.

William's daughter, Keeley BellamySheffield, said, "The glove is absolutely remarkable and has made such a difference for both dad and for the family."

Vinoth is now planning to bring the path breaking glove to India by next year.

Keeping in mind the diversity in the country, Vinoth says the gloves will have multiple language options.

The graduates are now working on increasing the glove's word bank and weeklong battery life. Kalhana, who is currently studying at the University for a PhD in Electronic Engineering, said "The glove weighs approximately 100 grams, has a battery life which lasts one week and costs around £700."

Best practices for the IP protection

The World Intellectual Property Organization(WIPO) has defined four primary types of intellectual property (IP) viz. patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. These are distinct in nature from one another but have common consequences if these are lost, stolen, misused or made unavailable. Importance of protecting IP is different than protecting regular information assets.
The industry today demands the IT teams to deliver services with BYOD, virtualization and cloud services. As these changes are being implemented across organizations, the CISOs and IS managers are posed with a lot of questions around securing their most valued asset, i.e. IP. The need of the hour is to build a scalable, integrated and flexible IT ecosystem that not only delivers as per the demands of business users, but also addresses the new paradigm of security requirements.
FORMULATING A STRONG IP STRATEGY

To begin with, organizations must invest in a well-written Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with various entities like employees, contractors, and third-parties. The Read More

App to help you hitch rides on private jets

Wealthy travelers wanting to fly in style can book empty seats on private planes with a new app for a jet-sharing service.

Although there are dozens of apps for buying seats on commercial flights, BlackJet is a new iPhone app that connects travelers with private jets that have extra room on their planes.

Flights are shared with from two to 14 other passengers, and the price is on par with a premium fare on a commercial airline, according to the San Francisco-based company.

"We had the idea to use the existing aircraft out there and to leverage the excess capacity," said BlackJet chief executive Dean Rotchin.

Passengers who are members of the service and pay an annual fee of $2,500 can book a seat on any of 4,000 airplanes the company has access to through partnerships. They can also buy add-on services such as meals and ground transportation.

The service is geared primarily towards business travelers looking for convenience, time-savings and reliability, according to Rotchin.

Travellers using the app can buy a seat in advance but they will not get a precise itinerary until the day before the flight.

"On the day of travel the experience is completely different than at the major airports. You're basically driving right up to the plane, getting on the airplane, and within 15 minutes the airplane is leaving," he said.

Flights booked with the app cost between $900 for a trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas to $3,500 for a coast-to-coast flight.

The company offers flights from San Francisco, Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles and South Florida, and plans to expand service to Chicago, Washington, Boston, Dallas and Seattle.

Since the web app was launched in October, more than 3,000 flights have been booked through it, the company said.

Another app called PrivateFly, which is available worldwide for iPhone, iPad and Android, allows jet-setters and companies to book an entire private jet.

New software to get rid of wireless traffic

Scientists are developing a new software that will allow wireless devices to 'talk' to each other and exchange simple stop and warning messages so their communications collide less often.

The popularity of wireless devices - from Wi-Fi laptops to Bluetooth headsets - is increasingly clogging the airwaves, resulting in dropped calls, wasted bandwidth and botched connections.

The new software being developed at the University of Michigan aims to control the traffic and dramatically reduce interference.

The software, GapSense, lets these devices that can't normally talk to one another exchange simple stop and warning messages so their communications collide less often.

GapSense creates a common language of energy pulses and gaps. The length of the gaps conveys the stop or warning message. Devices could send them at the start of a communication, or in between information packets to let other gadgets in the vicinity know about their plans.

"All these devices are supposed to perform their designated functions but they are using the same highway and fighting for space," said Kang Shin, the Kevin and Nancy O'Connor Professor of Computer Science at U-M.

"Since they don't have a direct means of communicating with each other because they use different protocols, we thought, 'How can we coordinate them so that each can perform their functions while minimising interference with the others?'" Shin said in a statement.

The researchers tested GapSense and found that it could reduce interference by more than 88 per cent on some networks with diverse devices.

At moderate Wi-Fi traffic, the researchers detected around 40 per cent collision rate between wider - and narrower-bandwidth devices and GapSense reduced it to virtually zero.

GapSense could also reduce energy consumption of Wi-Fi devices by 44 per cent. It would accomplish this by allowing the Wi-Fi receiver to operate at low clock rates.

Shin and Xinyu Zhang, a former doctoral student in electrical engineering and computer science, will present the work at the IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications in Turin, Italy.

The university is now seeking commercialisation partners to help bring the technology to market.

IT companies giving inputs for online course

National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), led by IIT and IISc, will move to a massive open online course platform, which may be provided by Google's Coursebuilder or Harvard and MIT-promoted online course platform edX, or both.

The three courses have been developed in association with IT firms TCS and Cognizant, which are giving inputs for the course material. Also, their centres across the country will also be available to NPTEL for conducting the final exams. Nasscom is supporting the venture and Infosys and Wipro are expected to join soon. Faculty from seven IIITs are helping with the course material.

"IT companies want to improve the quality of education and are working with IIT faculty. It is not a replacement for in-house training but students will be better qualified," said professor K Mangala Sunder, national coordinator of NPTEL.

NPTEL is looking for a software platform to host its content along the lines of international providers Coursera and edX. Both Coursera and edX have millions of users, and Indians account for about 15%, second only to the US. The NPTEL channel, currently on YouTube, has 1.5 lakh subscribers and 8.7 crore views.

Recent Report saying “Bosses can’t live without Mobile and Laptop’s”

Some of the world's most powerful and influential business people have revealed the secrets behind their success and things they simply can't function without, which include personal assistants, gadgets, and an old fashioned book.

Featured on job networking site LinkedIn, the full list resulted after questioning more than 50 influential people, according to News.com.au.

While Virgin king pin Richard Branson insisted that having an assistant who is on the ball 24/7 is one of the main ways he stays on top of business while Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman makes sure that she always carries her laptop (HP Envy x2), swimsuit and country music when travelling to focus, tune out and stay flexible.

Branson admitted that he'd be hopelessly lost without his personal assistant Helen.

And Whitman asserted that she always carry a swimsuit while travelling and try to stay at a location near a pool so she can get in a morning swim regardless of time zone.

Things that Indian-born American physician Deepak Chopra said he just can't travel or work without: "Mybasis, Dream Weaver, and my iPhone and iPad in my toolkit."

His mybasis acts as his online personal dashboard recording information about his body, while his Dream Weaver helps him relax and his iPad keep him connected to family, office and friends, something he asserted is important to him.

But Peter Guber, CEO of Mandalay Entertainment and owner of Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Dodgers, can't function without his smartphone, which he admits he's addicted to.

The author also revealed that he's gone back home to get his phone if he's forgotten it but not his wallet.

Unlike others Vivian Schiller, Chief Digital Officer at America's NBC News said he carries almost nothing.

Neil Weinberg, Editor-in-Chief at American Banker, said he has learned to stay away from his smart phones and laptops as far as possible after he realised it was raising his blood pressure and stress.

Now, he usually carries only a book while travelling.

Meanwhile Clara Shih, CEO of Hearsay Social and Author of The Facebook Era, insisted that being on the go as head of a fast-growing tech company means she can't be without her Droid 4 (phone), her Tory Burch ballet flats and one business card with an important reminder: to slow down and take a deep breath.

Interestingly, RedBalloon founder Naomi Simson said she never gets by without a smile.

Jennifer Dulski, President and COO at Change.Org simply can't live without her calligraphy pens because she finds that a handwritten personal note can be especially precious.

But Craigslist.com founder Craig Newmark insisted that he couldn't function without his Samsung Galaxy Note II which he uses 80 per cent of the time.

What may hurt Google's search business

Say you need a latte. You might pull out your phone, open the Yelp app and search for a nearby cafe. If instead you want to buy an espresso machine, you will most likely tap Amazon.com.

Either way, Google lost a customer.

Google remains the undisputed king of search, with about two-thirds of the market. But the nature of search is changing, especially as more people search for what they want to buy, eat or learn on their mobile devices. This has put the $22 billion search industry, perhaps the most lucrative and influential of online businesses, at its most significant crossroad since its invention.

No longer do consumers want to search the Web like the index of a book - finding links at which a particular keyword appears. They expect new kinds of customized search, like on topical sites such as Yelp, TripAdvisor or Amazon, which are chipping away at Google's hold. Google and its competitors are trying to develop the knowledge and comprehension to answer specific queries, not just point users in the right direction.

"What people want is, 'You ask a very simple question and you get a very simple answer,"' said Oren Etzioni, a professor at the University of Washington who has co-founded companies for shopping and flight search. "We don't want the 10 blue links on that small screen. We want to know the closest sushi place, make a reservation and be on our way."

People are overwhelmed at how crowded the Internet has become - Google says there are 30 trillion Web addresses, up from 1 trillion five years ago - and expect their computers and phones to be smarter and do more for them. Many of the new efforts are services that people don't even think of as search engines.

Amazon, for example, has a larger share than Google of shopping searches, the most lucrative kind because people are in the mood to buy something. On sites like Pinterest and Polyvore, users have curated their favorite things from around the Web to produce results when you search for, say, "lace dress."

On smartphones, people skip Google and go directly to apps, like Kayak or Weather Underground. Other apps send people information, like traffic or flight delays, before they even ask for it.

People use YouTube to search for things like how to tie a bow tie, Siri to search on their iPhones, online maps to find local places and Facebook to find things their friends have liked.

And services liked LinkedIn Influencers and Quora are trying to be different kinds of search engines - places to find high-quality, expert content and avoid weeding through everything else on the Web. On Quora, questions like "What was it like to work for Steve Jobs?" get answered by people with firsthand knowledge, something Google cannot provide.

"There is a lot of pressure on search engines to deliver more customized, more relevant results," said Shar VanBoskirk, an analyst at Forrester. "Users don't need links to Web pages. We need answers, solutions, whatever intel we were searching for."

But Google remains the guy to beat, even as alternative search sites become popular. "They're the specialty store you're going into here and there," said Danny Sullivan, an editor of Search Engine Land, a blog, "but they're not your grocery store."

Yet the promise of search is big enough that even though Microsoft loses billions of dollars a year on Bing and has failed to make a dent in Google's market share, it keeps at it. Microsoft - which in February had 17 percent of the market, and 26 percent including the searches it powered for Yahoo - has said it views search as essential to its other products, from the Xbox to phones. And there is still a lot of money to be made as No. 2.

"You have millions of people a day saying exactly what they want and if you're an advertiser, it's a beautiful vehicle," Sullivan said.

EMarketer estimates that Google earns about three-quarters of search ad spending. Search engines bring companies troves of data and a measure of control as Internet users' entry point to the digital world.

There are signs that people's search behaviors are changing, with consequences for these companies.

Searches on traditional services, dominated by Google, declined 3 percent in the second half of last year after rising for years, according to comScore, and the number of searches per searcher declined 7 percent. In contrast, searches on topical sites, known as vertical search engines, climbed 8 percent.

While traditional searches increased again this year, other data reflects the threat to Google.

In the first quarter, spending on search ads fell 1 percent, a significant slowdown for Google, according to IgnitionOne, a digital marketing company. Last year, Google lost market share in search ads for the first time, according to eMarketer, falling to 72.8 percent from 74 percent.

This year, ad spending on traditional search engines is expected to grow more slowly than overall online ad spending, a reversal. Its growth significantly outpaced that of online ad spending until last year, eMarketer said.

Google is not watching from the sidelines. It is making more changes to its search offerings and at a faster pace than it has in years.

Larry Page, its co-founder and chief executive, renamed the search division "knowledge." Google's mission, organizing the world's information, was too narrow. Now he wanted people to learn from Google.

Google now shows answers instead of just links if you search something like "March Madness," "weather" or even "my flight," in which case it can pull flight information from users' Gmail accounts.

The company's biggest step happened last year, when it introduced the knowledge graph. While search generally matches keywords to websites, the knowledge graph uses semantic search, which understands the meanings of and connections among people, places and things.

A typical search engine, for instance, responds to a search for "Diana" by showing Web pages on which that word appears, from Wikipedia entries on the goddess of the hunt and the Princess of Wales to an engagement ring company.

But a more knowledgeable, humanlike search engine could know that you were looking for your roommate Diana's online profile, or that you were also interested in Kate Middleton.

"What Google is beginning to do is share some of the knowledge in the world that humans have in their minds," said Ben Gomes, a Google fellow, "so users can begin to communicate with Google in a way that's much more natural to their thinking."

Google calls these small steps that show where it is headed.

In the future, Google could answer more complicated questions, Gomes said, like "How far is it from here to the Eiffel Tower?" and "Where could I go to a concert in warm weather next year?"

Despite the advances of alternative search services, online habits are just as hard to break as real-world ones, especially when they are useful, said Andrew Lipsman, vice president of industry analysis at comScore.

"Most people have this very strong Google habit," he said. "I go there every day and it gives me information I want, so it's a self-reinforcing cycle. Not anyone can come in and just do those things."
